New Mom Cobie Smulders ‘Functioning On Fumes’

Motherhood may still be “very, very new” for Cobie Smulders, who welcomed her first child last May, but the serious lack of shuteye is quickly catching up with her!

“I think I sleep an average of four hours a night now and so it’s just functioning on fumes sometimes,” she jokes during a Monday visit to The Bonnie Hunt Show.

Fortunately, the actress has been commiserating with her How I Met Your Mother costar Alyson Hannigan, who welcomed Satyana Marie only seven weeks before Cobie’s daughter Shaelyn Cado was born.

“There are a lot of play dates and time on set in the nursery,”  reveals the actress.

And while both baby girls sport somewhat unusual monikers, Cobie, 27, laughs that her daughter’s name is “normal” in comparison to her own!

“My full name is Jacoba Francisca Maria Smulders, that’s a mouthful!” she laughs. “Hopefully she won’t be teased too much. I went with it because I liked Shay and I had never really heard it before.”

After initially keeping the birth announcement under wraps, Cobie remains optimistic that her daughter will stay out of the spotlight. “I hate to say no to anything, but from my personal experience, I would like to leave her out of it,” she stresses. “I think it is a rejection thing and it’s a hard business for a woman to be in.”

However, should Shaelyn have a change of heart when she’s older, Cobie is prepared to cheer her on from the sidelines. “If it’s what she wants to do, then it’s what she wants to do,” she concedes.

Shaelyn is Cobie’s first child with fiancé Taran Killam.
